Chapter 16

This was not funny. Kenzie was sure they were trying to be helpful, but Doc Hanover was consulting with Doctor Anastasiya Levin, the town’s veterinarian. At least that’s what she claimed to be. Veterinarians didn’t tend to come from their clinic wearing three-hundred-dollar Italian stilettos.

The woman rolled her eyes and tapped her foot. “I can’t help you, Bill, if you won’t let me see the animal.”

He scrubbed a hand over his face. “It was supposed to be a phone consultation, and he’s not exactly an animal.”

“Then give me the address, and I will go there myself,” she said between her teeth. “You’re wasting my time. This cat sounds really sick, and it will be your fault if he dies.”

Kenzie was tired of this woman’s attitude, but in her defense, she didn’t know she was dealing with a sick were-tiger. Halfway to Hanover’s clinic, Tiberius shifted into his Therin form, which meant he was healing from something, but he was still groggy, and hopefully sleeping since Dex gave him one of Senica’s sedatives.

Demetri was with them, thanks to a winter storm threatening to dump two feet of snow on them. If this doctor chick wanted to be demanding for answers, she’d give the raven-haired broad an answer. If she didn’t like it, Demetri could erase it. “He’s in the back. I’ll take you to him.”

Hanover’s mouth dropped. Anastasiya smirked, and then nodded her head. “Thank you. Lead the way.”

Kenzie ran her hand over the large stone paperweight on Hanover’s desk, before she led Anastasiya out of the doctor’s office, down the hall, and to the exam room where Tiberius rested. Thanks to the pending snowstorm, the clinic was empty.

Kenzie braced herself for a possible negative reaction. “Just a moment.” She poked her head into the room to make sure Tiberius was still out. He was too big to put on any of the exam tables, so he was on a mat on the floor. His breathing was even, and he no longer had a grimace of pain on his face. She pushed the door open further. “Give me a moment, and then you can just come in.”

Kenzie went into the room and kneeled next to Tiberius. She stroked a hand down the side of the tufted striped fur on his Therin tiger face. “Another doctor is coming into look at you. Be nice to her, especially if she screams.”

The door creaked further open. Anastasiya gasped. “Where did you find it? Him.”

Kenzie glared at the woman. “He’s a person. Just like you and me. He is a Siberian were-tiger, and he collapsed while we were at a friend’s house today. He has an extensive medical history. Doctor Hanover has all the information. He thought you might be able to help because of your area of medical expertise. So, if you can’t help him, stop and talk to Demetri on your way out; he’ll make sure you’re compensated for your time.”

“I didn’t mean to be rude,” Anastasiya said as she came fully into the room.
